The PILIPINAS ANTI-PIRACY TEAM is a government-led initiative to reduce software piracy in the Philippines.
The team is composed of the National Bureau of Investigation, Optical Media Board and the Philippine National Police and is supported by the Business Software Alliance and the IP Coalition.

Victor Bessat, NBI Deputy Director for Special Investigation Services; PSSupt. Noel delos Reyes, PNP Intelligence Group chief of staff; Edu Manzano, OMB Chairman; and Ed Sazon, IP Coalition Vice Chairman.
In 2004, software piracy in the Philippines stood at 71%. This has caused significant losses in revenues for the software industry and hampered the growth of the IT industry and the economy as a whole. The Pilipinas Anti-Piracy Team was created to increase awareness and respect for intellectual property rights and promote the use of licensed software. It was also aimed at accelerating the growth of the Philippine software industry as well as help generate tax revenues for the government.
This move is in line with the government's efforts to stamp out piracy in the Philippines. Piracy is stealing and is punishable by law. Use only legal software.
"Mag Aling and His Umbrella-Boat:
A Modern-Day Fable"
FIRST Prize Winner, BSA Cool Creativity Contest BSA Asia PR Retreat 2007
We decided to write a story entitled "Mag Aling and His Umbrella-Boat: A Modern-Day Fable" and have it done in animation as our entry for the Cool Creativity Contest of the BSA PR Retreat held in Kuala Lumpur last September 18, 2007. We did so because we felt that it would be not only a creative and innovative but effective and practical way to educate the public about the importance of respecting intellectual property rights and fighting software piracy.
Such an animation would not only be in line with the recent trends in animated movies not just for children but for adults in Hollywood, but it would also be a medium that could reach as wide an audience as possible. The impact would also be greater since we would be using a medium that is not passive or static but active and dynamic not to mention entertaining. This would help the audience understand the message about IPR that we want to convey as well as give it higher recall value.
Before presenting our entry, I told the BSA officials and other PR agencies of BSA from other countries about how Holy Cow! Animation was inspired and motivated in doing not just story boards and one or two animation for our story as we asked them to. They did the animation for the whole story because they themselves use licensed software and believe so much in the cause of fighting software piracy.
Our Cool Creativity Entry was a virtually unanimous First Prize winner, garnering 20 points out of a maximum total points of 22.
Retreat participants were treated to
a Malaysian cultural show.
